Sudbury–Manitoulin — Service across a wide geography
In a cluster stretching across rural northern Ontario, friends have learned to weave together small, far-flung pockets of activity through shared seasons of service.
The Sudbury–Manitoulin cluster is large and rural. The friends are spread across small towns, First Nations communities, and the homes of families who may live forty minutes by road from the next participant. In this geography, growth does not come from a concentration of activities on one block. It comes from the determination of those scattered to belong to one cluster — to read the same guidance, to keep the same rhythm of cycles, to gather even when gathering is a long drive.
Service projects have become one of the means by which the cluster knits itself. Seasonal endeavours — a weekend of tree planting, a community meal at the Heritage Centre, a youth conference held jointly with a nearby cluster — bring families together in the same physical place, refresh the friendships that sustain the work, and produce small concrete contributions to the wider community.
